Making Music in the Arab World
The Culture and Artistry of Tarab
A very interesting book by musicologist and gifted bouzouq player, Dr Ali Jihad Racy
http://www.cambridge.org/catalogue/catalogue.asp?isbn=0521316855
35 dollars is a bit expensive for a paperback book these days, but, in my humble opinion, the book is absolutely worth it.
There is no technical jargon, it focuses on Tarab, Saltanah, the way the Mutrib interacts with his audience, the characteristics of Sammee3ah, Jalsat of Tarab, Haflat of Tarab.
I think that it's a very unique and valuable book.
