Thank you Shadi for sending me this lovely clip.

3aysheh Wahdah Balak is from one of Ziad spin-off musicals. It's very tarabic and the words have got so much sarcasm in them, one of my favourites.

It shows what a genius the man is (words, songs, and beautiful bouzouq playing)

What drove me to remember this song? It was dor Kulli min ye3shak Gameel yensifu, with its sarcastic sentence "Lammanta Mush qaddil Hawa bass ti3shaq leyh?"

Notice here that it is sung by the great late Joseph Saqr who really left very early and produced a massive gap in Ziad's tarabic output, a gap that even his mother Feiruz will never be able to fill.

you mean Joseph Saqr ?
yes it is one of my favourite Ziad songs as well ...
also the one that starts with "etghayer hawana ..we s'er kul shaghla ghelly ...)

Thanks Najib and Shadi.
My opinion: Ziyad did a much better job in his songs with Joseph than with Fairouz. Actually, one of the last CD's Fairouz produced, which contains a few songs of Ziyad's, titled "Mesh Kayen Hayk Tkoun", the songs are bull**** to me, both in terms of music and lyrics.

How come "religious" people haven't jumped all over the place because of "A'ayfeh Allah W Samak" :-)

Hehe, maybe because this is a music forum afterall. Then again, it could be that the only people who downloaded this song are lebanese (or affiliated therewith, as I am), and are used to this language.

In any case, lovely song, and I wish there was somewhere to get the notes for it. (trying to learn it by ear has proven tricky, though it sounds simple enough).

Dear Owners of this muntada,

I think it would only be appropriate to this site and its users that such language is not used during the discussions and there would be a clear policy for such cases.

Thanks Najib and Shadi.

If my comments (which reflect my PERSONAL opinion) are found offensive, please feel
free to delete my post. If the offensive part is my description of the songs, I saw before, for example, that Om Kulthoum was called a "b*t*h" on this forum, and that didn't offend me a bit. If my joke about the "A'yfeh allah..", then we have a serious issue here, for which this forum is not the right venue to discuss.

Abu A'laa, Najib, and Hatim (and anyone else who might be among the owners): please feel free to delete my post if YOU find it inappropriate.

I sincerely fail to see the offensive part in Luay's post. So, with all due respect to everybody, I don't see a serious reason for deleting the post. I don't think Burhan's comment referred to the ironical comment on the possiblity for "religious people" to feel offended by the lyrics. Maybe he meant the description used to qualify the lyrics and music of certain songs. I might not use the same word, but I basically agree with the judgement and yes I remember the word bitch being used in some comment on 'um kalthum (I think Fred was the culprit in that case:) ) and I don't think it was used as a moral judgement or an insult but rather as an emphatical affectionate way of expressing amazement (I rememeber hearing the following comment from the audience of a Quran recitation: "Yabni-l-'ih!" and it is obvious what the litteral meaning of this expression is as well as it is clear it was used to convey a similar feeling of amazement and had nothing diffamatory about it). So, please, gentelamen cool down and take it easy!

Dear Burhan,

You have to remember that we are distributed all over the world, and although most of us are writing in English, the context with which we write will differ between one country and another.

For example one of the biggest swear worlds in England is "Silly Cow", now I'm sure in America it means nothing.

I can understand Luay's expression from the perspective that he didn't like the content of the CD. Or the latest style of Ziad and Feiruz. I don't think Luay showed any disrespect to Ziad because he did like the taqtuqah with which we began this thread.

Hope this clarifies it.

I definitely meant no disrespect to Ziyad (who am I anyway to judge him?). I actually made a point before that I sensed a hint of beautiful Tarab in his work with Joseph. As Abu A'laa and Najib put it, it was a figurative speech. I'll be more careful with my word
choice next time (given that I can't contribute any files to the forum, it would be horrible for me to only contribute bad words :-)

I hope there are no bad feelings, and once again, my sincere apologies if I caused any.

Thanks to all.

Apart from the choice of words, i disagree with Luay's judegment on 2 tracks where i like the music ..the first and the last one (sallemly- we qamah ), I agree the rest are not really impressive. i don''t understand the dialect very well and the lyrics to me are not of great importance (like those dawrs with lyrics like el-bulbul gani we 2ally ! ) ...
i think wala kayef as an album is worse, because it is all Ziad ..and there was no place for Fairouz there ..i think Ziad was very honest when mentioned that if not for Fairuz ,this would not be even noticed . I kind of felt it was really too much for Fairouz ..
