هذا القسم مخصص لفن أم كلثوم البلتاجي (حوالي 1900-1975)، أشهر مطربة في القرن العشرين، باعتبار أدائها على مدى خمسين عاما يعدّ نموذجا لتدرّج الموسيقى المصرية من طور الموسيقى التقليدية الراقية إلى طور الموسيقى الشائعة. ولئن كان جزء من تراثها لا يندرج ضمن فصيلة الموسيقى العربية الكلاسيكية التي يروم هذا المنتدى تقديمها وترويجها، فإن مكانة أم كلثوم الاستثنائية كرمز فني وثقافي وكمطربة تدربت على فنون الموسيقى الكلاسيكية في مطلع القرن العشرين هي ما يبرر إقدام المنتدى على تقديم أفضل ما في إنتاجها التجاري. لذلك فإن هذا "التسامح" يخصّها هي دون غيرها من المطربين

just a small comment:

I think that the transition you are refering to, though very prelevant in UM's works, is not an UM K. specific phenomena or model....as the same transition could be clearly traced in Abdel Wahhab's works as both a singer and a composer though at a different pace.

Using this premises, it would be useful that an independent section could also be dedicated also to Abdel Wahhab!

Burhan,

Yes he may be the second record-selling artist after Umm Kulthum, but you have to bear in mind that his singing career stopped at the end of the fourties.

So the snapshot that we want to provide is better represented by Umm Kulthum given that her recording career spanned most of the 20th century.

Of course no one is denying the recordings of Abdel Wahab when he remembered that he was an inheritor of the Nahda, and these are available commercially apart from few Nawader.

The scope with UK is much wider, and the more we discover treasures from the likes of our brother Mahmoud the more we find that there is a lot of unearthing and studying to do.

Hope this clarifies few things.
