Exellent files indeed, thanks a lot for them and for the dedication.

I loved his style, and I like the Kadnil Hawa inspired bit in the second files.

Can you post some more please.

I have my own bag of surprises for you this week. You just wait!

It's Oud Master Mahmoud Kamel, private recordings as you can hear.

The player is Egyptian Master Mahmoud Kamel
I believe he was a composer for singers and for instruments also
but i have no instrumental compositions of him
in the file 01 you can hear the entire taksimah including the part that was taken in the Oud movie

(the old man in the elevator)

you will find also other improvisations (given to me by the egyptian oud player tarek abdallah)

i hope nagib, and other player, wil explain for us some of the technical aspects

especially that those improvisations shows his special way and untraditionnal takasim ambiance

Dear Najib
the "famous" mahmoud Kamel, Hamzah el dine, moudathar abou el wafa improvisations
and the clips of moudathar and abdo dagher, and abdo dagher's and the luthier that we can easiy find (for ex. on Mike's Oud site) are taken from a german documentary film called
1990, Regie: Fritz Baumann, Dokumentarfilm, 16mm, 87min
Produktion: Fritz Baumann Film

didn't find it in france but it seems available in germany
but i once have seen it in tripoli - el mina, some 15 years ago, by the help of the german center there

Thanks Ovide.

Paul do you have it? Can you find it in Germany?

11-01-2007, 02:20
I don't have it, but it is widely available on a code-free DVD.
The cheapest and most easy for you would be:
http://cgi.ebay.de/DVD-AL-OUD-NEU-OVP-DAS-HOLZ_W0QQitemZ330067434998QQihZ014QQcategoryZ38895 QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItem
There it costs 11,99 Euro plus 6 Euro for shipping to UK.
It seems that movie is sort of semi-documentary, and it seems to feature most prominently the German oud player Roman Bunka, with other musicians in as well.
