Dear Kamal,
Allow me to be the first to thank you for this great file. I didn't expect to hear it live before.
The sound quality is great (I've listened to 5 minutes so far).
By the way, Ya Dhalimni from the same concert is posted on the forum. Still missing is Gaddedte Hobbak Leh.

By the way, does anyone know if there's a live recording of An-Nil?

Thanks again.

By the way, the introductory music of this song is very similar to that of El Hayah Hilwah of Farid El Atrache, which for some reason, I noticed in this recording, but not in the studio one!
Any similarity in maqam, etc., between the two?
Also, the very few seconds sound identical to the very first seconds in Ya Leilti-l-Eid Anestina.

The three of them are in bayati mode. The similarity with ya lilti-l-'id is obvious. I didn't think of el-hayah hilwah

I didn't think of el-hayah hilwah

Do I need to make any comment on why that is the case? :D

Thanks Abu A'laa for the info about the maqam. That was my guess, and I'll explain why that was my guess, even though Fred once lectured me about not using this logic :)
I recall Fred saying (and I hope I'm not mistaken in my quote here) that we shouldn't associate the mode (as in sad, happy, etc.) with a maqam, and that came up, I think, when
I said something like "Saba sounds to be sad". Now, despite Fred's reprimand, I'm always
hearing "happiness" in Bayati (the three pieces mentioned here seem to be associated with
happiness). I also recall that Lamma-Zzaman Elli Ghadar Boh (or part of it) is on Bayati; I don't know if it's happiness there, but definitely the rhythm is faster in that part than in the rest (so, it's happiness, or that Bayati always comes with a faster rhythm, or both... I'm confused :-)

Thanks again.

Fred is (almost) always right.:) There's no point in associating maqams with different moods nor with rythms.
Fakir lamma kunti ganbi is in bayati as well as 'adhnaytani bi-l-hagr, el-bu'di 'allimni-s-sahar...etc No happiness in such pieces and no "fast rythm" at all.
By the way, do you think el-haya hilwah is "older" than As-sudan? I seriously doubt it as I can hardly imagine Sunbati plagiarizing Farid!

Ok, so that I understand better: is the opening way of singing "Faker Lamma Konte Ganbi" on the Bayati mode? And, is the part of "Wel-Moga Tegri Wara-l-Moga" also on the Bayati mode? I'm trying to play them both in my head, and the latter seems closer to Waqa-l-Arda Sharra..".

I have absolutely no idea. Why would you seriously doubt that? Didn't Najib prove the Zakriya stole the part of Hulm's music from Ya Dalaa'? :D I doubt El Hayah Hilwah came before As-Sudan, even though I have no evidence whatsoever.

Thanks again for giving these additional examples on maqams, and making my live much harder  (for the life of me, I can't see how Adnaytani Bel-Hagr and El Hayah Hilwah, for example, are on the same maqam!) That principle of comparing two pieces is killing me, because the comparison is not showing me any similarity here. I'm sure there's some barrier in my brain that's foiling the comparison, and I'm serious about this: I have a feeling that I keep being thrown off by the rhythm of the song. I just can't isolate the melody from the rhythm.
