Mawwal supposed to be saba, but Abd al-Hayy takes his time even accepting to open his mouth, for the greatest confusion of the qanungi, and starts bayyati, and doesn't allow for the targama.

This is indeed unprecedented! Was it going to be in saba and, then, 'abdi-l-hay changed his mind? Did he make an inaudible sign to the qanungi so that he shifts to bayati? Anyway, the introductory sentence by the qanun is the only trace of saba in this mawwal. Otherwise it's an all-bayati mawwal.

But, this recording tells that the Qanounji has an instrument with 3arabat, that he moved with his left hand, unlike the popular opinion according to which the 3arabaat of the qanoun entered Egypt much later in the 20th century.

ولكن، كيف استنتجت أن القانونجي لا يستعمل عربا ؟ هل لأن الصوت لا يبدو مخنوقا قليلا كما يحدث حين يضع القانونجي مرفقه على الوتر لتغيير الدوزان في القانون الذي بدون عُرب ؟

لقد أسمعت صديقي نجيب الغربي هذا التّسجيل على الهاتف، وهو كما تعلمون عازف قانون، وطرحت عليه نفس السّؤال وكان جوابه كالآتي :
"أعتقد أنّ ما جعل مصطفى يذهب إلى أنّ القانون مجهّز بعرب هو الانتقال من الصّبا إلى البياتي وما يستوجبه تغيير المقام من تغيير الدّوزان، إلاّ أنّ القرينة ليست كافية في وضع الحال لأنّ التّغيير الوحيد المطلوب في هذه الحالة يخصّ وترين اثنين (النّوى والمحيّر)، وقد يقتصر العازف على تغيير وتر واحد (النّوى) لأنّ تغييره ضروريّ، والأرجح هنا، على افتراض أن لا يكون إيقاف التّسجيل لدقيقة أو دقيقتين ثمّ استئنافه ممكنا، أنّ العازف قام بالتّعديل خلال السّكت الوجيز الفاصل بين جملة الصّبا الافتتاحيّة واستئناف العزف على البياتي ؛ ويبدو لي أنّ وتر النّوى ناقص قليلا ممّا قد يؤكّد أنّ تغييره كان حينيّا وسريعا ؛ لذلك أرجّح أن يكون القانون هنا بلا عرب، على أنّي أحتاج إلى سماع الملفّ مباشرة وزيادة التّركيز للجزم في الأمر.
