I recorded this version of Lessa Faker early this morning from Iza3at al Aghani in Cairo. I personally like this version quite a lot. I straight away recognized it simply because I have heard it before and knew that this is going to be the one that I want to keep. The lady in here simply swerves somehow from the one that we all know (i.e. the commercial one), and one can easily tell from the different ways she does the quaflat and from the prolonged "ahat" and phrases she brings in and orchestrates. She comfortably answers the reaction of the audience and I can say that her voice is tenderly received by them as I couldn't see any tiredness in it. Despite what some think that her depreciation curve began in the year 1964 onwards, I believe this version should be heard and appreciated. Towrads the last quarter she improvises beautifully and I couldn’t see any obvious trouble synchronizing or coordinating with the music.

I am uploading ALL the original "fat" recordings (@128 kbps) on some site and therefore if anyone would like to keep those originals, they can write to me privately.

Thanks very much Hilal.

What you wrote does not mean this is your most favorite version of this song, but just in case this is what's meant, I'd like to bring the 1962 version to your attention (it has the most beautiful improvisations in Willayali part, among all the versions that I've heard of this song, not to mention the beautiful qanun taqasim from Abdu Saleh, also in the same part):

You are most welcome my dear Luay.

Oh no obviously this is not what I exactly meant. I meant that I personally like it because I particularly know it and it brings back memories. In fact this version is recorded on a reel tape in my late father's library together with many concerts alike. I do agree with you that the Azbakeyyah 1962 version is most beautiful as well.

Any idea about the exact number of times the lady performed this song, Luay? The ones that I know are seven; I am sure the number is more than that but I will be interested to know how many times exactly. Perhaps Fred can advise on this as well!

Kind regards

Based on Atef Al-Mawlid's list (posted on the forum), she sang it 13 times.

Thank you Luay. I shall have to find this document and download it. Does by any chance Victor Sa77ab's book have a list of all the lady's concerts? His book has been mentioned to me quite a lot but I never got a chance to get it.

There is also a very beautiful version of this song that is uploaded in a cousin forum. It si from January 1966 concert and I personally think it has one of the most beautiful impros on 'w el layali'. Maybe not much from a vocal range perspective, but they are simply heartbreaking. Since we are not allowed to upload songs downloaded from other fora, whoever is interested in having it, please feel free to let me know. I will be able to provide it once I'm back in Canada (in Beirut now).

SALAM!

The 1966 version will be uploaded here soon, from an original Idha3at al-Aghani recording, in excellent quality.

Absolutetlatetly:) I never had a chance to edit and encode this one myself.

They broadcast earlier this morning "7ayyarti albi Ma3ak" sang at Al -Azbakeyyah on the 3rd of January 1963 with nice impros but only towards the last quarter responding to the audience request so the lady had to return to perform again I suppose. As I was editing it I realised that we have it split in two parts in the forum, but surely my version is a better quality recording. I have too many to talk about but they unfortunately oppose the Bukhari:D
