Excuse the questions, but I could not find the answers elsewhere:

1- In terms of Agnas what are the following Maqams: Zangaran, Dalanshin (Kirdan?), Examples?

2- What is the difference between Huzam and Rahati l-Arwah in terms of performance? In other words why isn't Rahti l-Arwah just huzam on B flat?

3- Does the first note of a piece decide the dominant maqam or is it the first qaflah?

Hi Amr,

Someone else's answers might be different.

1- Zangaran hicaz on Do + Garkah on Fa - Best example is Ya halawtel Dounia

Delnishin (or Kurdan) is a rast with a saba on la embellishment. Example is the great 3ishna we Shufna dor.

2- Raht el Arwah is a huzam transposed on si half bemol instead of mi half bemol. The transposed makams are all named differently in Turkish and Arabic. A lot of times their "Sayr"s are different.

3- First note never decides anything. Always better to wait for the qaflah to determine a jins and for a couple of sentences to determine the whole maqam

Thanks Najib. Quite Helpful Actually. The third question was kinda dumb, the question should have been actually on the relationship between the first Gins and the Maqam of a piece, but you got the point.

By the way I made a mistake above the hicaz of the zangaran should be on Do to have a Garkah on Fa. Oops!
