From a wonderful wonderful wonderful new CD on this great Ottoman Composer by En Chordais.
The performers are the Bezmara group led by our friend Dr Fikrat Karakaya.
Enjoy
Lovely playing and singing.
the Beste is so classical in style, it's actually refreshing. nothing more relaxing than getting the feeling your sitting the the palace of the sultan listening to Tanburi Isak (who just happens to be the sultan's music teacher).
Amr
I've listened to the seddaraban beste again,
Let me correct my previous opinion, it's not refreshing, it's painfully beautiful.
now I know why the great sultan Salim the third used to stand up whenever this man came in.
any information about the singer?
does anybody happen to have any bekir sidki sezgin?
Tomorrow will be Shavki Bey with the choir of Nevzat Atlig.
You just wait mate!
well then, I'm waiting. (nothing like some music to brighten up a monday).

I have a 3-CD-set published by Türk Müzikisi Vakfi just entitled "Bekir Sidki Sezgin" with 2 CDs of compositions of a variety of Ottoman composers and one album with 20th century compositions. I uploaded one song composed by Sadettin Kaynak here:

Are you looking for something in particular?
At my desk at work I've got this 4 CD sets that is new from Kalan, but they didn't have, and I got it from Tulumba NY:

I have just discovered that it contains some Shevki Bey listening that is reommended in the Turkish Makam book of Prof Karl Signell.
So it's been sitting there for 3 weeks now, and I haven't managed to listen to the songs yet, but now that I've seen them mentioned in the book I'm encouraged.
Your triple Bekir Sedki Sezgin CDs, I've got them as a copy, and Hakem today is getting his original copy from a friend in Berlin!
They are wonderful CDs and Bekir Sedki was one of the last Dini (Religious) giant performers. He is the teacher of my friend Asuman in London who has just retired from the Turkish National Corus - which brings us back full circle to Mr Atlig again!
looking forward to the Shevki bey,
as for the Sezgin song, I had a short listen, and the man's voice is glorious, perhaps the most emotional of the bunch (not to mention that the man himself is such a nice guy, as I noticed in a short video of him and cinucen posted on the zeryab forum).
I just wanted to know what his voice sounds like, and if you have any songs sung by him that you particularly like, I would be very grateful if you would be so kind as to share them with us.
A quadruple doze of Hicaz Sharkis the 1, 3, and 4 are by Shevki Bey from the CD that I mentioned.
Number 2 is by Medeni Aziz Efendi
Enjoy!
