I met Munir not long ago after a brilliant concert of his in NYC. He's teacher and friend of my Udi friend Mavrothis Kontanis.

He teaches in New York at Siena College I believe. You can see some of his music on Rhapsody:

Thanks Anton, you seem to be the only one who detected Beken as a peculiar player. I thought many would refer to this magnificent playing, especially his pick, but it seems I was wrong again as ever
I shall be waiting for more of Beken's, my orderly favourite oud player for the time being
Here are some excerpt about Beken as found in the net
    :

Münir Nurettin Beken is one of the founding members of the State Turkish Music Ensemble. His technique, musicality, and mastery of a variety of both old and modern styles have made him the leading ud player of his generation. Beken's recordings are widely circulated and emulated by oud students.
Münir Nurettin Beken, oud virtuoso, began his musical life in 1975 at age 11 at the State Conservatory of Istanbul as a student of Mutlu Torun, a famous pedagogue and author of an extensive work on the ud method. After graduating with honors in 1986, he conducted the Conservatory Orchestra for three years, during which time he recorded numerous television programs for TRT, the Turkish state radio and television network. As conductor and performer with the Istanbul Studio Orchestra, he recorded many of his own compositions. His ballet suite, Dino and Ceren, was commissioned and performed by the Istanbul State Opera and Ballet, and many of his other compositions were performed in Turkey and abroad. In 1988 he earned his master's degree in music from the Technical University of Istanbul.
In 1989 Beken came to the University of Maryland for doctoral studies, earning a Ph.D. in ethnomusicology in 1998. Beken has given tanbur and oud recitals in the Walters Art Gallery and Strathmore Hall Arts Center (MD), The Smithsonian Institution and the Textile Museum (Washington, D.C.), the Metropolitan Museum of Art (New York City), the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and the Herbst Theatre (San Francisco), among others. He has also performed for Voice of America. In 1992, he was the first instrumentalist to perform a solo recital of Turkish traditional music in the Istanbul International Festival. In 1994, he won the Maryland State Arts Council's individual artist award and became the executive director of the Center for Turkish Music at the University of Maryland
    Thanks more & more

Here are two more pieces by Münir Nurettin Beken - a Taksim in Ferahfeza (from Kalan's Masters of Turkish Music - Ud compilation, just like the above upload) and his interpretation of Sherif Muhiddin Targan's famous Kapris.

Yes, I agree that Beken is among the more exciting Turkish ud players of today, though as compared to Cinucen Tanrikorur... But then - no one matches Cinucen.

I've just discovered that this clip I uploaded here had been taken from Zeryab Forum uploaded there by our friend AmbroseBierce , from a CD called The Art of Turkish Oud by Munir Nuriteen Beken. So thank you my friend
Dut to the fact that I am not well acquainted with Turkish Oud I
sounded this enthusiastic about this kind of playing

More Munir Beken

Here's the beautiful Ferahfeza Son Pesrev and Son Yuruk Semai (Zeki Mehmet Aga. 1776-1845).

You might recognize these recordings from the recent thread where we saw the Veli Dede Hicaz Humayun Pesrev. These compositions, if I remember correctly, were added at the end (instead of the 3rd and 4th Hanes of the Veli Dede Pesrev). Enjoy.

This is from the CD "The Art of the Turkish Ud."

    إفتراضي Ussak Pesrev

Since al-Farabi was so intrigued by Munir's stroking technique, I figured he (and you) would enjoy this particular piece. It's a 17th century Ussak Pesrev by a composer identified as Serif (died in 1680?).

You'll notice very interesting right hand technique, very fast strokes, which the CD booklet identifies as lavta technique (it even reminded me of certain Cretan laouto strokes).

This is from the same CD. Enjoy.
