I am going to start adding what I have of this amazing artist in this thread.
To start with, I am going to keep it light, and post the same Maqam I had posted a while ago, in an earlier reading. This is Maqam Ajam, sung by Yousef Omar, and accompanied this time by Jamil Bashir's Takht (Cemil Beşir to our turkish friends), the recording is not very clear, but Jamil does a maginificent job, which is not so much "accompaniying" in the traditional sense, but more like mini taksims every once in a while, and if you would notice the amazing application of sul ponto he does with the saba.
I hope you enjoy this recording, after all, Ajam is generally very relaxing. I am not clear however about the structure of this maqam, but it should be generally easy for those who have an experienced ear (I am not one of them), to follow around where the man's going with the line.
I am hoping to start with something much heavier next week. (as an hors d'oevre, I'll probably post a nice nahawand by both yousef omar and his teacher, the great Al-Gubbanchi, who invented nahawand as in iraqi maqam in the first place.)
Regards
Amr
