    Sulaymān Abū Dawūd
    dōr / Fu'ādī min liḥāẓak
comp. Muḥammad ‘Uthmān, poem Muṣṭafā Nagīb
    2 sides, Odeon
    45218
    matrix nb : Ex 1234 a/b
estimated date of recording : late 1905-early 1906

I was at first afraid there might be either a part missing or a speed difference between side 1 and 2, but the end of side 2 shows that Sulaymān Abū Dawūd closes on approx. the same degree as the end of side 1, so I guess the somewhat clumsy jump to the second floor of the maqām is a consequence of the very basic recording technique of these very first years. The estimated date is based on the work done with the AMAR Salāma Ḥigāzī CDs, since the matrix number is in the same range as Shaykh Salāma's first series of takes.
This is not the most remarkable dōr in maqām ḥigāz that I have ever heard, but I have not listened to it enough to let it sink into the ear and the mind. Let us say it has no obviously catchy moments. But enjoyable all the same.

I totally agree on both points. The leap to the upper part of the scale in the second side is indeed unusual, but the closing notes confirm this is not due to a technical defect. I also think this is not a remarkable dawr.
