إفتراضي Mansour Effendi Awad / Taqsim Bayati & March Mustafa Pasha Kamel

    Mansour Effendi Awad
Taqsim Bayati alal oud & March Mustafa Pasha Kamel
    Baidaphon 12406-S / 08-S

you'll find him playing a lot with Sahloun & Shawwa.

the taqsim is here absolutely amazing.
i uploaded the march also, less for the aesthetic purpose, and more for historical value. that side of the record was more worn out than side 2, so the high pitches are strained on the audio, sorry about that.

    unfiltered files attached as well.

Thanks Alfleila. I have the impression there was a common style in 'ud playing, particularly in taqsims, that prevailed in the beginning of the 20th century as it appears from the recordings of Dawud Hsni, 'ibrahim Al-qabbani and now Mansur 'awadh, including in the early cylinder recordings, a mode that I would qualify as tense and sustained. Qasabgi's play is clearly of a different style and probably came as a sort of revolution at the time.
Strikingly, the taqsim side label says taqsim rast ("rasd"), whereas there is no doubt that the taqsim mode is bayati.
