    إفتراضي Hi

I asked about the "Yes3ed Sabahak" because when I bought this CD many years ago none of the songs on it were familar. They were all done for the Itha3it el Shark in the fifties. They are very "swing" type of long songs, not suitable for this forum but we can talk about them. Her voice on the CD is unbelievable though!

So the songs you were asking about are on actual CDs? What CDs are they? please let me know.

I don't know whether they are on CDs, Najib. These are songs I used to listen to when I was young, that is some thirty years ago. You know, we got some well established habits and Fayruz was an institution on her own the same way 'um kalthum was. The Tunisian radio had the excellent idea to set a fixed daily appointemnt for Fayruz songs and that was at quarter to seven am so that I grew up with the conviction that one must listen to nothing else first thing in the morning after the Quran recitation than to some Fayruz songs as much as the evening time was the 'um kalthum hour... I still know part of ]El hubbi-l-qadim[/I] (part of the lyrics I mean; the music is always more easily memorised) and sing it from time to time more than twenty five years since I've listened to it for the last time

Thank you Burhan. I already knew this one as well as a few other compositions of Ziyad. The intention is obvious from the choice of the maqam, the rythm and the musical phrases. But the least I can say is that he's far away from the genius of his father and uncle. Their music was all the more authentic that they were keen on making a music of their own without any kind of subordination. You see, those guys were really creative even about things I personally don't like because too western oriented. It is also true that Fayruz golden years were already behind if not far behind.
    DearBU Alaa,
I do not agree with you regarding the talent of Ziad...nor about the golden years of fairuz...
I hope u have had the chance to listen to a representative sample of works by ziad and fairuz,

in certain aspects, i think that is more talented that rahbani brothers....

    best,

    إفتراضي Feiruz - Ziyad

I agree with you Burhan with regards to Ziad's genius. He is a far better musician than his father ever was.

Unfortunately Ziad was dealt a heavy blow because of the death of Joseph Sakr. Together they really formed a wonderful parternship, and defined a proper Tarab phenomenon. I prefer the Ziad-Sakr works more than the Ziad-Feiruz parternship. Also the political/realistic approach of the Ziad-Sakr was a success phenomenon.

With regards to Feiruz I don't mind her re-inventing herself as an oriental Jazz singer, but she should retire from singing her old songs because the difference is massive.

    Abu Ala'

If you tell me more about the other songs I might find them for you.
Al-Shouroogy - Is it from a Masrahiya? What are some of the words?

Dawaleeb ElOmr- again is it from a masrahiya or what?

I have lots of Fairouz to download. Just ask
